I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I mean they're such an awful company that they've seriously turned me off to working in a corporate environment altogether. Not only did they do some obscenely ludicrous things to their customers, but they routinely treated their employees like shit as well.
Well, it's February sixth and I still have not received my W2s. On January 31st, I contacted human resources inquiring as to who I might contact since I hadn't received them. I was given the name of this guy, Bill Jenkins. I was informed they were mailed out on the 30th and 31st. I said that I found it hard to believe that this was the case, since they still hadn't arrived yet. He said that his only responsibility was to mail them and that he was not responsible for how long it took to get here. I informed him that I was not questioning that. What I was questioning was whether he had actually mailed them when he said he did, because if he had, they would be here by now. He again repeated himself, saying he could not control the mail. I told him I would be checking the postdate on the W2s, and if they were not dated before February 1st, that I would be reporting him to the IRS. "Fine!" He yelled, and hung up the phone.
Then I thought "you know, that guy did jack shit to help me with this." So I called back and asked to confirm my name and address. I spelled my name three times to him, as he couldn't seem to get it right. He spent the next ten minutes trying to find my name on the computer, whining about it the whole time. He finally confirmed it. I asked if he could tell me when it was sent. He informed he he had no record of that whatsoever. Great.
Then, on the sixth, they still hadn't arrived so I called him again. I received his voice mail. I informed him that I had not received them and believed they had been lost in the mail and asked that he re-send them, and to please call me back to confirm that he was going to do that. He never called me back.
I called the IRS and found out that I could not do anything with them for another ten days. So, I'm pursuing this guy but if I still don't get my tax forms, that I will most certainly report him.
I also emailed HR, requesting this man's email address and asking if anyone else has reported such problems. I want as much of this done via email as possible, so I actually have a written record of this to forward to the IRS if he continues to be uncooperative.
I have to say, I'm pretty aghast by the whole thing. I've never seen anyplace with so much arrogance and disregard as this. Companies can get in a lot of trouble for pulling this kind of thing. Most of the time, they don't mess with it. What is even more baffling is the fact that it would be relatively easy to just print out another copy of my W2 and send it to me. I'm not entirely clear why this man would rather get in a pissing contest with me which, if pushed, will surely get him fired and get his company fined thousands of dollars by the IRS, but apparently he seems to feel the need to. I'm not sure if he's stupid or, if like many of the people I worked with, is just exceedingly lazy and assumes that no one will try to do anything about it.
All of these hassles lately make me really wish that I had taken my mom's advice, done what she tried for years to get me to do, and become a lawyer.
