So I went to the interview at the mall coffee place.
It was....well, interesting.
We got to the mall about a half hour ahead of time so we went shopping for cufflinks for Rob, then just walked around for a bit. Then, I went to the coffee place and asked for the woman, Barbara, that I was supposed to interview with. I was explained, with some confusion, that she hadn't arrived yet. She was coming in with the shipment from her home in Indiana, and was late. The guy implied she might be stuck in traffic (there's about as much traffic in most of Indiana as there is in Western Michigan. Pretty much non existant) and offered me some coffee.
"I'll have a cappucino," I said.
"Oh." He said. "Umm...well our frother isn't working so it would taste more like a latte. Is a latte okay?"
"Sure." I said. Then, I proceeded to wait for about twenty minutes. I watched the employees feed the shake machine, clean out the espresso maker and wait on various customers. I decided to go wander, and told him I would be back. I found the bench where Rob was sitting. We talked for a few minutes, and I went back to the coffee shop to see if she was back. She was.
I waited for some sort of apology or explanation of her making me wait for half an hour but none was forthcoming. She took me back to the stock room where she was freaking out about a few cups on the floor and that her employees were not being meticulous enough. (It's not like they were slacking off or anything...)then showed me where the bulk of the food and supplies were stored. Her husband was finishing unpacking the shipment and she accusingly asked me if he had unpacked all of it. He said yes, and made some comment to the extent of "don't yell at me, you always blame me for everything." Ah hah, I can see she's a pleasant lady to work for.
So she gave me some paperwork and told me that she would call me to set up a time to start. It seemed pretty evil and vile. On the bright side, she said that every month I would give her my availability and she would decide from there when I'd work, so that's not bad.
Hmm, inexplicable evil versus cash (however minute, $6.75/hr) and flexible schedules. Well, if that isn't the story of my life, I don't know what is...
